Jenova Chen Says The Gaming Renaissance Is Happening Now

“I feel it’s a time where a lot of people who study games start to graduate and come into this field. It’s a really good time for all these people to really push the boundaries of what games can be. With digital distribution — PSN, Xbox Live, WiiWare, Steam — all those [avenues]…Before, everything sold through retail. You can’t even make a game that’s below a million dollar budget. I think right now — in the future, when people look back, I think it’s the renaissance of video games.” – thatgamecompany co-founder Jenova Chen.

As larger companies struggle to maintain higher production costs on their sequels to their series that they have been putting out for year, the smaller PSN titles such as Flower, fl0w, Pixel Junk Monsters, and many more are doing quite well. Games such as those can easily be seen as the “rebirth” of the gaming industry. Although some game companies are still living in the past, I believe they will see that the industry is moving more quickly than they thought and will start to get with the program.
