PS3 Not Kicking Ass In Japan. Boss Blames Publishers

Sony-Shuhei-Yoshida-Pope

The PS3’s performance in Japan isn’t terrible, it’s just not as great as Sony would like it to be (although comparing anything to the Wii would make it look flaccid). Shuhei Yoshida recently commented on the topic at the Games Convention in Germany.

It’s mostly a software thing. Price is important, but relative to the the value consumers perceive. There are lots of consumers, game fans in Japan, that are waiting to spend their money.

What’s happening is that lack of support from the Japanese publishers - not necessarily from intentions but from development capabilities.

So basically, there aren’t enough different types of games out there for every type of gamer out there. As much as I love my PS3, I can’t disagree with that. Here’s an Idea for developers: make some RPG’s. A lot of them. There are hardly any right now, and I’m sure Japan needs more than just rhythm games. That worked well for their competitors, so why not give it a try?
